Hair Restoration - Start Early.
What is hair restoration?
Hair restoration is an entire process - not just a procedure. In order for hair restoration to be effective it is important to identify and address the underlying cause when possible. This is why step one in hair restoration at Performance Health is a 30-60 minute appointment to discuss your history, detailed medical history and often laboratory studies to ensure that we are laying a solid foundation for the investment you are ready to make on your scalp. We also make certain that each patient is a candidate before proceeding to have the highest likelihood of success. The best candidates are: the younger the better and the sooner in the hair loss process the better. Total non-candidates are individuals who have been bald or mostly bald for several years an individuals with scarring alopecias.
What are the hair restoration options?
Let us start by saying - we do not believe in hair loss vitamins for the most part. We rarely recommend them to supplements for hair loss. The first thing you can do is lifestyle related - self care - stress, sleep, and nutrition. After addressing these factors we recommend PRP for individuals under the age of 45, with or without exosomes. For individuals over 45 platelet rich plasma may be less effective so we recommend PRP with exosomes. After age 65 we recommend exosomes alone as platelet rich plasma may be a waste of money at this point. We will often combine these treatments with DHT blockers (natural or RX) and recommend other therapies to use in conjunction.

What is the procedure like?
The microneedling portion is the same as any other microneedling - think of a tattoo machine without ink. Since the skin is numbed with cream prior to the procedure it hurts less than it would otherwise but is not pain free. Many patients have their scalp injected with PRP and/or exosomes, this part of the procedure hurts only a little for the majority of patients. You can expect the procedure to take an hour for short hair and 1 and a hal hours for long hair.

How many treatments do I need?
We generally recommend that if you are going to invest in PRP or exosomes - do a package of 3, 4-8 weeks apart and see where you are 3 months later. We recommend yearly thereafter, sooner if you notice more shedding. Everyone is different.
Risks of Hair Restoration
The risks of hair restoration are the risks that are individually associated with PRP, microneedling and exosomes. That is to say that the risks are very low but can include infection, scarring or unsatisfactory results.
