Psychiatry at Performance Health
Our Approach:
At Performance Health, psychiatry is part of a broader view of health. We believe that mood, energy, focus, and sleep are influenced by the entire body - nutritional status, hormones, inflammation, sleep quality, physical activity, and stress physiology all matter. Our goal is to understand what’s driving symptoms before deciding that they are purely psychiatric.
Holistic Perspective:
Mental health symptoms can reflect many overlapping factors. Iron deficiency, thyroid or sex hormone changes, inflammation, nutrient depletion, chronic pain, sleep disruption, certain medications, and even environmental stress can present as depression, anxiety, or poor concentration. Our process is to look for and address these potential contributors rather than masking them with medication alone.
Methodology:
We follow a “start low, go slow” philosophy. Every treatment-whether lifestyle, therapy, or medication-is introduced gradually and monitored closely. This reduces side effects and allows for a clearer understanding of what helps. We prefer to make one change at a time, communicate clearly about risks and benefits, and involve you in each decision.
Treatment Philosophy:
Medication may be one part of care, but it is never the only part. We incorporate sleep optimization, movement, nutrition, stress management, and behavioral tools alongside medication when needed. The aim is to restore balance, not simply blunt symptoms.
Collaboration:
At Performance Health - all of our patients are assessed from a mental health and medical perspective. Our providers routinely collaborate and help each other problem solve whenever possible. In addition - we coordinate care with primary providers and specialists whenever necessary.
